What is allowed in a skip?

• Generally, a skip can be used for almost anything, unless it is hazardous
• Read on for more details

Prohibited items – What can’t you put in a skip?

• Items that are deemed hazardous or dangerous
• Here is a list of some of those items;
  • Computer monitors
  • Tyres
  • TV’s
  • Asbestos
  • Fridges
  • Paint
  • Paint cans (ok if they are empty)
  • Batteries
  • Medical waste
  • Gas canisters
  • Liquids
  • Oil
  • Diesel,
  • Solvents
  • Explosives
  • Fluorescent tubes

Paint tins – Can you put paint tins in a skip?

• If the paint tins have no paint in, they can go in the skip.
• Otherwise talk to your local council for help with disposing of the tins

Mattresses – Can you put a mattress in a skip?

• If you want to put your mattress in the skip, please contact us at the time of order or before the end of the skip hire. Unfortunately, we have to charge extra as we have additional costs to dispose of it.
• The extra costs vary by area, so contact us and we can explain.

Plasterboard – Can you put plasterboard in a skip?

• Unfortunately, plasterboard or any gypsum waste is not allowed in skips as it has to be disposed of separately.

Tyres – Can you put tyres in a skip?

• Unfortunately tyres like some of the other items listed here must be disposed of another way than general skip waste.
• So tyres are not allowed in skips.

Soil and rubble – Can you put soil or rubble in a skip?

• Yes, here is something that is allowed!!
• It is allowed to put in rubble and soil, please inform us when the booking is made.

Can you put electrical equipment in skips?

• Unfortunately, no electrical equipment is allowed in skips due to WEEE regulations
• Please talk to your local council or ask any store that you bought your new electrical item from, to see if they can dispose of it for you.

Fridges and Freezers – Can you put fridges in skips?

• Unfortunately, both fridges and freezers are not allowed in skips.
• Your options are to talk to your local council, take it to your nearby tip or get it collected by a local specialist company.

TV and CRTs – Can you put an old TV in a skip?

• Unfortunately, as mentioned above, both computer monitors and televisions are not allowed in skips.
• Your local council can help you.

Asbestos – Can you put asbestos in a skip?

• Unfortunately, asbestos is hazardous and must not be recycled, therefore cannot be put into a skip.
• Please contact a specialist waste company, who will be able to help you.

Are There Regulations I Should Be Aware Of?

• Normally the general rules apply everywhere in England but there could be some local differences and some exceptions are made because some local authorities may have the ability to process waste that others cannot.
